When
one enters the world of Iraqi artist Dr Sabeeh Kalash, one is instantly
struck by the vibrant hues of purple and blue in his paintings. "These
colours depict the vibrancy of life and enthusiasm," he says.
Kalash's paintings, with the beauty of movement of shapes and their distribution
on the areas and masses, produce delightful sceneries.
Omani motifs such as frankincense burner, dagger, water, oil, palm trees
and dates can be found in many of his paintings and some of these symbols
are repeated in a way that they will emerge from the center of the painting
towards the onlooker. This symbolization has covered almost all of the
area of his paintings that appeared with their simple and economizing
colours.
